As part of the NextGen Michigan strategy to create a cutting-edge IT environment for U-M, ITS has developed two new services that take the effort and expense of managing servers and databases out of campus units.
Today, units are responsible for everything from purchasing hardware and installing operating systems to managing upgrades and patches on servers and databases.
MiServer and MiDatabase allow units or individuals to run server and database systems in a virtual environment managed by ITS. ITS takes care of the technical details so faculty, staff, and students can focus on innovations in their labs, libraries, and classrooms. That means units can advance their unique mission, the missions that make the University of Michigan "The Leader and Best."
