Overview

LSAIT offers three monitoring solutions for servers and the services thereon, primarily used by the IT professionals throughout the college and not often of interest to general faculty, staff, or students:

  • Nagios
  • SCOM
  • Zabbix

Nagios

The Nagios monitoring solution is used to monitor various Linux, Mac, and Windows servers for many of the the servers and services supported by the LSAIT Infrastructure team and the regional support groups. Most operations can be performed via its web interface, which requires Cosign authentication, though there is also a command-line tool to send specific commands to the server process which we use to suppress alerts for groups of hosts or services.

For more information on Nagios in general, see their web site, www.nagios.org.

If you're interested in monitoring your servers or services with Nagios, please contact LSAIT Infrastructure to request it.

SCOM

Microsoft's System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) monitoring solution primarily monitors the LSAIT Infrastructure Windows servers. All operations can be performed through the console, Microsoft.MOM.UI.Console.exe, and some can be performed through the web interface, which only works with Internet Explorer.

If you're interested in monitoring your Windows servers or services with SCOM, please contact LSAIT Infrastructure to request it.

Zabbix

The Zabbix monitoring solution is an enterprise-class open source software for monitoring networks and applications. It is designed to monitor and track the status of various network services, servers, and other network hardware. Operations can be performed via its web interface, which requires Cosign authentication.

For more information on Zabbix in general, see their web site, www.zabbix.org.

If you're interested in monitoring your servers or services with Zabbix, please contact LSAIT Infrastructure to request it.
