Overview

MiWorkspace is a computing service that provides comprehensive support for U-M faculty and staff’s use of university-owned Windows and Mac computers. It includes common computing needs such as file storage, network connectivity, secure printing, and desktop support by a campus network of IT professionals. Use of mobile devices and personally-owned computers is supported at a more basic level, and enhancements are being planned as we embrace the "bring your own device" trend.

Features: 
  • Automatic security and software updates for Windows and Mac computers with options to accommodate your schedule.
  • In-person support from familiar Neighborhood IT professionals who know you and your work.
  • Easy-to-use printing options include
    • MPrint access for easy printer installation.
    • Follow Me Print, a secure and on-demand printing feature that works with a swipe of your Mcard on any MiWorkspace multifunction printer to copy, fax, and scan to email.
  • Wired and wireless network access. MWireless is the preferred wireless network.
  • Mobile and remote access technology that allows off-campus network access for Windows computers without having to connect via U-M Virtual Private Network (VPN). Mac laptops are preconfigured to work with the U-M VPN.
  • Secure storage and backup for both individual and departmental files. Desktop and laptop backup is available by request for a fee.
  • Virtual on-demand software available through MiApps, where you can access select software titles anytime, anyplace, and from many devices with an Internet connection.
  • Safe computing environment that balances security with convenience ensuring your data, computers, and personal information are secure.
  • Access to loaner equipment (e.g., laptop, desktop, monitor) to borrow on a short- or long-term basis. Pick-up and delivery options available.
  • Personally-owned device support to access U-M resources including printing, network, M+Google, and M+Box.
Who can use the service?: 

MiWorkspace is a comprehensive service for participating units on the Ann Arbor campus, and their faculty, staff, students, and other community members. All those using university-owned computers receive support. The U-M Health System is not participating in MiWorkspace. To learn more, please visit the project site.  

Rates & Pricing: 

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer and the Provost Office are working with schools, colleges, and administrative units to determine the approach for service funding and cost recovery.
