Overview

A Wiki is a Website that allows users to add, modify, or delete the content via a web browser using a simplified markup language or rich text editor.  Wikis are used for many different purposes such as knowledge management, note-taking, documentation, etc.  Most often the content found in a Wiki is created collaboratively.  Levels of access and other rules can be imposed to organize and protect content.

The ITS MediaWiki service offering is an open source wiki package written in PHP.  MediaWiki allows users to develop their own wiki, a collaborative web publishing space that requires no knowledge of HTML.  Anyone who can view the wiki can contribute or modify the content.  Unlike traditional Wikis, the ITS MediaWiki service allows you to limit access to a group.  Wikis are often used by groups to develop internal documentation because of the open editing ability.  However, like Wikipedia, wikis can be used for almost any purpose.
