Overview

ITS security staff can provide extensive guidance, consulting, and subject matter expertise to units for unit-level disaster recovery/business continuity planning and preparedness. This service helps units identify risks and threats to their operational mission and institutional data, and puts plans in place to minimize any potential interruptions.

The service will help protect unit-owned systems and services that support the primary mission of the unit or that have direct and immediate effect on the unit or university, including:

  • Risk to human and research-animal life or safety;
  • Significant legal, regulatory, or financial costs;
  • Significant impact to the university’s research, learning and teaching missions;
  • Requires short recovery time to prevent a significant disruption to a primary mission
     
Features: 

Depending on unit needs, any or all of the following areas could be addressed:

  • Identification of critical systems
  • Documentation of overarching risks and threats, and analysis of their potential impact
  • Development and documentation of processes and procedures to support continuity of operations and timely recovery and restoration of critical services during an adverse event
  • Development and documentation of enterprise continuity plans for critical services and supporting processes
  • Testing and validation of enterprise continuity plans
  • Development of change management and documentation processes to manage changes in staff, technology, and other factors impacting enterprise continuity
Who can use the service?: 

IT Security Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning may be requested by units across the University of Michigan. The release of the IT Security Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning service will follow the same release schedule as the MiWorkspace rollout.
